World T20 Qualifiers: Tamim’s thunderous knock helps Bangladesh with a 8-run win

Despite losing the final of recently concluded Asia Cup in their home conditions, Bangladesh started their campaign on a positive note in the ICC World T20 2016. Tamim Iqbal smashed an unbeaten knock of 83 runs to give Bangladesh an 8-run victory over Netherlands on Monday.

Bangladesh started well with opener Iqbal playing a sensible game whereas batsmen at the other end, continued falling off. Soumya Sarkar (15) lost his wicket in the 4th over, despite being dropped in the 1st over, the wicketkeeper batsman disappointed and gave an edge to the keeper.

The Dutch spearhead Timm van der Gugten led the assault on Bangladesh as he claimed 3 wickets. Another pacer Paul van Meekeren (2/17) supported the Dutch dominance with his refined pace. Captain Peter Borren and orthodox spinner Roelof van der Merwe dismissed Shakib Al Hasan and Sabbir Rahman to contribute in the bowling attack.

Chasing a competitive target of 154 runs, Netherlands got off to a steady start, however the had to face a big blow in the 5th over as wicketkeeper batsman Wesley Barresi (9) lost his wicket to Bangladeshi spearhead Al-Amin Hossain (2/24).

For Bangladesh, Hossain and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan claimed two wickets each. Captain Mashrafe Mortaza and off spinner Nasir Hossain scrapped Roelof van der Merwe (1) and Stephan Myburgh (29) respectively.

Despite suffering loss of wickets at a regular interval, Netherlands bought the match closer and lost by a lesser margin. In their next match, Netherlands are scheduled to play Oman at Dharamsala on Friday.
