A lacklustre start to the game, some trickery by Dele Alli in the 4th minute but nothing came of it. Not a single chance for either side in the first 9 minutes. First piece of action came in the 13th minute, Jacob Blaszczykowski saw his shot blocked away by Tottenham defender, Toby Alderwield. Passage of play for the next 10 minutes with the away side, enjoying healthy possession. Fiorentina midfielder Zarate cutting in and firing over the bar in the 17th minute.
Mesmerising skills by Dele Alli in the first half, a couple of nutmegs, smooth. The best chance of the game was in the 26th minute, Eriksen’s dipping drive pushed over for a corner. Some action in the 33rd minute, Ben Davies fouled in the box and Penalty! Nacer Chadli stood up in place of Kane and scored, Tottenham one up! The two teams were defending very well, nothing came in till the 45th minute. Just at the stroke of half-time, the home team’s best chance, Zarate heading over the bar, just over. At half-time, just the penalty from Chadli separating the two sides, Fiorentina Tottenham 0-1.
The start of the second half, Moussa Dembele on for tom Carroll. Positive signs for the home fans, another chance for Zarate but his touch is blocked by Kevin Wimmer. Some lovely skills by Alli in the 56th minute who finds Son on the edge of the box, Son firing just over the bar. The hosts equalised 3 minutes later, number 10 Federico Bernardeschi finding the net. All square and game on!
Nothing for the next 8-9 minutes, Harry Kane on for Son in the 68th minute. An array of shots blocked and deflected for both sides, just missed chances. A penalty shout for Tottenham as Dele Alli appeared to be fouled inside the box, not given. 77 minutes already up, the game looked to be heading towards a draw. Tottenham’s final change, Eric Dier on for Nacer Chadli. Into the action, Dier had his shot deflected for a corner in the 82nd minute. An acrobatic effort by Dele Alli in the 88th minute, his scissor kick coming close but not finding the net. A long range effort by Zarate in the 90th minute, well saved by Tottenham goalie, Vorm.
Full-time. It was all square, both teams sharing the spoils with a 1-1 draw. Tottenham however hold the advantage with that crucial away goal. A well balanced contest, both teams had their chances but couldn’t find the back of the net.
