India’s campaign at the All England Championships abruptly ended when Saina Nehwal lost to Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying 15-21, 16-21 in the quarter-finals at the Barclaycard Arena.
Nehwal was returning from an injury layoff but was hopeful of setting up a date with Spain’s Carolina Marin in the finals of the USD 550,000 tournament before the 25-year-old was defeated in straight sets.
Meanwhile, World No. 1 Carolina Marin stormed into the semi-finals after the defending champion defeated Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon 21-17 21-19 in the quarter-finals.
With Nehwal out of the competition, Marin will be looking to win the title again.
