Quota bout ahead of Rio Olympics
Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt has secured a Rio Olympic quota for India on Saturday after making it to the final round of the men’s 65KG freestyle event on the second day of the Asian Olympic Qualification tournament.
Yogeshwar has become the second Indian wrestler after Narsingh Yadav to have booked a place in the Rio Games, which is going to be held later this year.
33-year-old Yogeshwar qualified for the Olympics by after reaching the finals. The top two finishers in each category are assured of a Rio berth.
The London Olympics bronze medallist will take on Adam Batirov for a gold medal finish.
Yogeshwar put on a commanding display on his journey to the final, winning all three of his bouts.
He defeated Kim Ju-song of North Korea 8-1 in a qualification round, then got the better of Xuan Dinh Nguyen of Vietnam by fall verdict 12-2 in the quarters, before beating Lee Seung-Chul of Korea 7-2 in his semi-finals.
