India Open: Saina Nehwal progresses to the semi-finals, PV Sindhu crashes out

Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal qualified for the semi-finals after winning her thrilling quarter-finals encounter against Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun in the Yonex India Open at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi on 1st April 2016.

The 26-year-old defending champion emerged victorious in her quarter-finals match winning by 19-21, 21-14, 21-19. The match lasted an hour and 22 minutes.

Nehwal who is currently the World No. 6 had previously defeated Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol in straight sets winning by 21-19, 21-14 in the Round of 16s.

Elsewhere, PV Sindhu crashed out of the tournament after losing to Korea’s Bae Yeon Ju 21-15, 15-21, 15-21 in her quarter-finals match.The 20-year-old squandered her advantage as her opponent Bae built on her momentum relentlessly and continued to trouble the Indian youngster which ultimately led to her demise.

On this day, last year, Saina Nehwal became World No. 1 in the singles division in the BWF rankings.
