It was one of the worst kept secrets in the Premier League. But, after weeks of waiting, Steve McClaren has finally been sacked by Newcastle.
The former England boss had presided over a torrid time at the north-east club, taking them dangerously deep into the dropzone.
Players and pundits had all seen it coming, but that didn’t spare McClaren their scorn.
A shambles when they appointed him – a shambles when they sacked McClaren. Why isn't anyone else going – Lee Charnley? Isn't he responsible?

McClaren sacked by #nufc. End of an error.

It was the powers that be at St James’ Park that attracted criticism from others, however, because of the prolonged manner of the dismissal.
Newcastle have finally put Steve McClaren out of his misery. The running of that great football club is beyond shambolic.

Newcastle confirm McClaren sacked. Statement mentions his integrity, class, dignity – not qualities readily associated with Ashley-era #NUFC

Eventually Newcastle have sacked Steve McClaren. Talk about dragging it out!

Some felt that brighter times might lie ahead for the Magpies following the change in management.
Rafa in the driving seat to replace McClaren. Whoever takes over, I still expect Newcastle to stay up.

But is Rafa Benitez, the man being lined up to step into the breach, the right man for the job?
Rafa is a good coach and a gentleman, I am just jot convinced this is a great situation for him. Can't do much worse than McClaren, at least
