Indian cricket legend turned commentator, Sunil Gavaskar is most likely to be looking for a new job in the coming weeks. This sudden situation of his axing from the BCCI has surfaced due to disruption in the Indian Cricket Board regarding the commentator’s overly charged fee structure and his growing differences with the authorities.
Sunil Gavaskar who has been in a long term partnership with the BCCI’s production house as an associate to hire commentators internally, charges a fee that has been termed ‘astronomical’ by the authorities (eight times of the nominal fee).
“Sunny gets Rs 10 lakh per match day while Sanjay gets around Rs 3 to 4 lakh. Do your math”, as quoted by a source of the BCCI.
On this, Gavaskar commented as, “It is the BCCI’s prerogative to offer contracts, so the question (whether to offer contract or not) should be addressed to them,”
As per a report submitted by the BCCI, contract of former Indian cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan along with that of Gavaskar would not be up for renewal this time. Following the possibility of his dismissal from the commentary section, BCCI has put forward Sanjay Manjrekar’s name as his best replacement.
