South African wicketkeeper- batsman, Quinton de Kock was at his best on Tuesday, when he smashed 135 off 117 balls to give South Africa a tasteful 7-wicket victory over England. His impressive knock made him both the fastest and youngest batsman in the 50 over format to complete 10 centuries.
His opening partner, Hashim Amla also joined the party with his 125 runs off 130 balls to contribute in the triumph. Riding on Joe Root’s impressive knock of 125 runs, England posted a competitive total of 318 runs in the first innings. South Africa reached the target efficiently with 7 wickets in hand and 22 balls left in their innings.
Amidst Proteas’ impeccable win over the English, De Kock’s record was the icing on the cake.
Youngest
De Kock came of age as he became the youngest player in ODI history to hit 10 centuries. Previously the record was held by Virat Kohli, who achieved the feat in his 80th match appearance when he was 23 years and 159 days old. De Kock reached the summit with 105 days to spare as he was 23 years and 54 days when he struck his tenth century on 9th February 2016.
Fastest
The batsman from Johannesburg surpassed his team mate with his impressive record. De Kock completed the 10 ODI centuries in 55 innings as he took the crown from Hashim Amla, who completed the mark in 57 innings.
“We know it was going to get better in the night. You just have to get your eye in and play your normal strokes, you get full value for your strokes here,” De Kock said after achieving the mark..
